Our card for today, Thursday, December 17th, is taken from the Indigo Angel Oracle Cards – Health.
Before we get to today’s card, I just want to say that from now till after the holidays my readings will be a little sporadic. Dealing with chronic pain and still having to get out and shop for Christmas, or any of the other things that come with the holidays, leaves me exhausted. I will do the readings as I can. Thank you for your patience. Now on to today’s reading.
Health is not just about having a healthy physical body, it’s also about our mental, emotional and spiritual health as well. It’s an holistic approach so that we take care of ALL of our needs, not just our physical needs. Health comes from loving ourselves enough to do what is good and right for us, like eating healthy foods, drinking lots of pure water, getting enough sleep, taking time to exercise, and all the other things that we should do to take care of our physical vessels.
Health also comes from spending time in prayer or meditation, reading uplifting books or articles, and remembering that we are more than just a body, we are multi-dimensional beings. Our spiritual needs are just as important as our physical needs, maybe more so. Our health also includes the things we do every day. If we are stressed by our jobs or the people in our lives, then it is time to start making changes as we can, like looking for another job that will not be as stressful and will use our abilities to help others in some way, or distancing ourselves as much as possible from the people that add unwanted drama to our lives or who pull us down.
It is also important for us to recognize that all our emotions are valid, even the not so pleasant ones. Denying or swallowing our anger and frustration can cause health issues down the road, stress has been linked to cardiac related illnesses as well as cancer. It’s better to acknowledge what we feel and find a creative outlet for it without taking it out on someone we love, or our pets, or even strangers. I know that for myself, I had a lot of anger inside me so I bought myself an inflatable punching bag that allowed me to take out my frustrations and also get some exercise at the same time! Some people go for a run as a way to vent pent up anger or negative emotions. Find what works for you and do that.
As people walking a spiritual path, we often feel bad for feeling anger or frustration, or any other negative emotion, but our emotions are part of us and are a natural part of being human. I also recommend watching Matt Kahn’s Youtube video titled “Radical Acceptance” to understand that it’s okay for us to be angry or frustrated by things that happen to us. I promise it will also make you laugh!
Our mental health is also important and one way to keep our minds and memories in good health is to learn to do something new, to find ways to exercise our minds and memories, like doing crossword puzzles, or learning a new language, or anything that stimulates our mental abilities. Remember we are more than just a body, we are complex beings and our health is more than just how we take care of ourselves physically. So as we go about our days, we need to love ourselves enough to take care of ourselves in every way, not just in some ways but in all ways, so that we are well-rounded and balanced beings who are healthy in every way.
