Our card for today, Tuesday, December 22nd, is taken from the Indigo Angel Oracle Cards – Explore.
This card is asking us to not be afraid to explore our emotions. Let’s face it, it is our emotions that we use to navigate our world. We stay away from people, places, situations or things that make us feel bad or afraid. On the other hand, we embrace everything that makes us feel good and brings us happiness and joy. However we have other emotions like anger, sadness, or even hatred, which we try our best, as beings on the spiritual path, to avoid. When we do feel these emotions, we do our best then to hide them or mask them by putting a smile on our faces to hide what we truly feel. We do this because we are afraid to feel the very emotions we believe we are not supposed to feel, especially if we are following the teachings of many masters who tell us we are supposed to love everyone and everything, no exceptions, and we are supposed to always live in joy. Then we berate ourselves for not being better spiritual beings, for not keeping our vibrations high enough so that we don’t even feel these darker emotions at all.
However, we may well be spiritual beings, but we are also human, and these emotions are part of our experience here. It’s how we handle these emotions that makes or breaks us. If we act on our anger or hatred and hurt another being or even ourselves, then of course we know we have not handled these emotions very well. If however we can allow the emotion to come to the surface and be present with it, acknowledge how we feel and be okay with it, then we have a better chance of letting it go without acting on it in a negative way, and without beating ourselves up for feeling this negative emotion in the first place. If we can just allow ourselves to feel what comes up instead of judging it and then judging ourselves for feeling it, then perhaps we can find the cause of what we are feeling and then heal it. Stuffing the negative emotion away won’t solve the problem, and it only delays our healing. When we don’t allow ourselves to feel what we are truly experiencing in any moment in any situation, we are not being true to ourselves and we are most assuredly not being authentic.
I’m reading this book right now titled “Spirit-Centered Relationships” by Gay and Kathlyn Hendricks. In this book they talk about “presencing” which is learning to rest our present-centered awareness on our feelings without attempting to control or change them. If we can learn to be present with our natural feelings, we’ll find that even the unpleasant feelings like anger, sadness and fear actually put us directly in touch with our spiritual essence. By practicing “presencing”, we can learn to be with all our emotions, pleasant or unpleasant, and still be in contact with our own beautiful spiritual essence. This is so important because if we can’t learn to be with our emotions without judging them or trying to fix them, we are going to feel out of touch and out of balance within ourselves. This also goes back to what Matt Kahn teaches in his video “Radical Acceptance”. If we can be in this now moment and allow ourselves to feel whatever it is we are feeling and be okay with whatever that feeling is, then we are on the path to becoming whole within ourselves.
Have a great day everyone! ~Namaste~
