Our card for today, Monday, May 28th, is taken from the Kuan Yin Oracle – Shining Lotus – “There are times when it makes sense to be discrete, until you find your inner strength so that you feel empowered enough to share your thoughts, feelings and beliefs without wavering, even in the face of challenge by another. At other times, we benefit ourselves and others by taking a risk and allowing the inner lotus blossom of our true Self to shine forth, for all to behold.”
Most of us have conformed to what society deems appropriate when it comes to the way we dress, the things we say, the way we behave and so on, especially if we want to be accepted and “fit in” with our peers. Even when it comes to our own families and inner circle of friends, most of us still hide who we really are and wear the appropriate mask depending on the occasion and who we are with. And that’s okay, sometimes in order to keep the peace we have to dim our light and keep our mouths shut. Not everyone gets us, especially if we are walking this spiritual path and our beliefs differ greatly from those around us. I have done this most of my life as I have always been considered a little odd by family and friends.
However I feel it is time to stop pretending to be someone or something we are not. It’s time to drop the masks we wear to fit in and let our lights shine in the darkness. We are Lightworkers and Wayshowers and hiding our lights under bushels isn’t serving anyone anymore, not even ourselves. As Jesus said in Matthew 5:15: “Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick, and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.” This is what we are meant to do, be ourselves, shine our lights and lead those who are lost out of the darkness and back into the light of God’s love. If we don’t do this then we are not being true to ourselves and we are doing a disservice to those around us.
Yes it may be hard to do, yes people may laugh and poke fun at us, but who really and truly wants to fit in and be like everyone else? Not me! It’s funny because my daughter was out to dinner tonight with a friend and she was telling her friend about some of the things I do and her friend laughed because she thought it was funny. When my daughter told me this I was feeling a little hurt and told her I didn’t appreciate her talking about me to her friends. She laughed and said that I shouldn’t be embarrassed by my “strangeness” but that I should own it! And I do own it!
I find lately that it is getting very hard to keep my mouth shut when it comes to my beliefs. If people around me are talking about something that I have a different point of view on, I’m more apt now to say what I think even if it causes them to look at me like I have lost my mind. So don’t dim your light to make others feel comfortable, be yourself and let your light shine and make no apologies for it. This reminds me of a couple of sayings: “Be yourself, the world will adjust!” and “Don’t let anything dull your sparkle!” (that is actually the title of a book by Doreen Virtue) So be yourself, and speak your truth so that you can be a Shining Lotus!
Have a great day everyone! ~Namaste~
