Card For The Weekend

Thou Shalt Love The Lord Your God

Our card for the weekend, June 9th and 10th, is taken from the Loving Words from Jesus Card Deck – “Thou shalt love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” (Mark 12:30)

When Jesus was asked what the greatest commandment was this was His answer: 29“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ (Mark 12:29-30) So when we are wondering what we should be doing,  we have the most important commandment to guide us.

However, how many of us can say that we actually follow this commandment? In today’s society, with our busy-ness and our technology, how many of us take the time to love God, to spend time reading His word or praying every day? God doesn’t only want to be part of our lives on Sunday when we go to church, He wants to be part of our lives every second of every day. He wants a relationship with us and not a part time relationship but a full time one. He wants us to come to Him not only in times of trouble and sadness, but He wants us to come to Him in times of happiness and joy as well. He wants to share our lives, to be our constant companion, our dearest friend and father.

God is not some old man with a long white beard sitting on a throne on a cloud somewhere, He’s in our hearts, He’s part of us and we are part of Him. He is everywhere and in everything. Maybe if we had a better relationship with God, we would find that our lives are better. We would have more love, and more joy, and more peace in our lives if we loved and acknowledged Him. So many people feel alone in life when in reality we are never alone, even if we don’t realize it ourselves, God is always with us. But if we forget to, or refuse to, acknowledge Him and take the time to have a relationship with Him, then yes life can feel very lonely and difficult indeed. Having a close relationship with God and Jesus doesn’t mean we won’t face troubles, but it does mean that we won’t face them, or anything, alone.

No matter how far we roam in this life, eventually we will all find our way back home to the One who created us and Who loves us more than we can imagine. At some point in our lives something will happen that will show us just how much we need God and that our relationship with Him far exceeds anything else we could ever have. He patiently awaits our return because we are after all the King’s kids!

Have a great weekend everyone! ~Namaste~
