Our card for today, Thursday, January 10th, is taken from the Wisdom of the Oracle Divination Cards – All That Glitters – Essential Meanings: A need to see beyond the superficial; the desire to don a mask or dress something up to disguise it’s true nature; trying to be something you’re not; chasing after every sparkly new thing; being mercurial.
I am sure that we have all heard the saying “All that glitters is not gold” and we all know basically what it means. We know that everything that looks beautiful and good is not necessarily so, but now I want us to look at this a different way and change that saying a little bit to say “All that appears to be ugly or dark is not necessarily so”.
Have you looked at a silver item that is tarnished and thought it was garbage, only to clean it and discover something beautiful beneath the tarnished exterior? People can be like that too! We have been taught by society to value beauty, or sexy, or handsome, when we look at people, but I’m sure many of us have learned that some of those people may look good on the outside, but are most certainly not good people.
On the other hand we may have judged other people by their not so good looks, or their dirty clothes, or some other feature we found distasteful for whatever reason, only to find that these are some of the most loving gentle people we have ever met. Or we may have taken someone’s word that these people were no good, but when we got to know them, we discovered they were wonderful people. It kind of goes with the saying “don’t judge a book by it’s cover” because the cover isn’t telling us much about what is inside. In other words it doesn’t tell us the whole story!
If we look at the life of Jesus, we know that He never made any assumptions about people based on how they looked, what their profession was, or the clothes they wore. He chose to see God in everyone, even in the lowest of the low, and He offered them His love and gave them His time and attention, often to the horror of His followers. Perhaps it’s time for us to be aware of how we view people and what we base their worth on, like looks, or profession, or wealth.
It’s time for us to see God in everyone, even if they don’t measure up to today’s standards of what makes a person worthy of our time and attention and even our love. We were created equal after all, just some of us had an easier or better life than others, or had better opportunities. Jesus didn’t make the sacrifice He did for those who were deemed worthy, He made it for everyone, even the lowest of the low, so that everyone who wished it could have a personal relationship with Him and with the Father.
Have a great day everyone! ~Namaste~
